The date of the 155th running of the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate (LQP) – South Africa’s premier horse racing day – has been confirmed for Saturday, 9 January 2016, at Kenilworth Race-course, guaranteeing a magnificent start to the year’s social calendar.
Once again set to be an exhilarating day of horse racing – the day’s 12-race card will set South Africa’s finest thoroughbreds against each other as they pursue the coveted trophy and R1 million purse.
Listed by The Telegraph in the United Kingdom in 2014 as one of the top five race days in the world, L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate is ranked alongside other illustrious races, including the likes of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (Paris), Breeder’s Cup (California), Melbourne Cup and Dubai World Cup.
Both Ladies and Gentlemen are required to dress in a manner appropriate to a smart occasion adhering to the dress code of blue and white. Outfits should be elegant.
Ladies are required to dress smartly and are encouraged to wear a hat or fascinator. Stiletto heels are not recommended due to the terrain. No jeans, shorts or fancy dress are permitted.
Gentlemen are required to wear jackets and ties, cravats or a smart, open neck shirt and trousers. Linen suits and a waistcoat with the archetypal panama can also be worn. No jeans, shorts, sleeveless shirts, open shoes or fancy dress are permitted.
The L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate reserves the right to bar access to guests who are not dressed in appropriate racing attire and within the blue and white dress code.
Food and Drink
A variety of food and drink options will be on sale during the course of the event.
Parking is available on the in-field at Kenilworth Race Course off Wetton Road for all guests who have pre-purchased event tickets. Alternative parking is available at the Wynberg Sports Club.
