From the 18 to 22 March 2015, two Cape Town Braai Masters will be attempting to break the current Guinness World Record by braaing for 4 DAYS straight at the Tyger Valley Shopping Centre in Cape Town!
Richard Knoetze, (Adventure Braai Master, participant in the World BBQ Championships, holder of numerous Western Province titles and national competitor, recently the Top 15 Western Cape for Ultimate Braai Master season 3) will be supported by Pieter van Dalen one of the Original Ama Chop Chop Braai Masters in the 2001 BBQ World Champ, who has dedicated his working career to helping his community in various projects that eventually saw him do a term in Parliament.
Together they will be attempting to break one of the toughest records out there – the record for continuous braaing or BBQ. That is 96 hours of sweat and exhaustion which will test their bodies to the limits!

So why braai for 96 hours straight? The mission is to keep the record in SA as braaing is part of our culture and national heritage. More importantly, Richard will be raising awareness for early detection of bipolar, a crippling disease which has close meaning to Richard who was diagnosed 3 years ago. Currently, there is no support group or Hotline in SA and this event will be the start of a welcome campaign backed by Cape Mental Health to create awareness and offer guidance and help. Donations will be used to set up a Website and Hotline.
The event is open to the public and everyone is welcome to come down and watch live demonstrations and enjoy the food on offer. The two intrepid braai buddies will be cooking up a storm and there is a good chance some of your favourite celebs will be in attendance so make sure that you pay a visit. Food must be eaten as part of the record and will be donated to children homes and for the elderly.
