Fans of the One Night in Cape Town shows have had strong opinions on who should open for both evenings of show. Since the announcement that the international artists will be performing over 2 separate evenings, the social media accounts have received numerous suggestions. Hilltop Live & Jägermeister have listened stating that at times it felt that the fans have been reading thier minds and are excited to announce the local line up.
Joining Gogol Bordello on Thursday 6 August, two Capetonian artists, both who bring their unique blend of punk, gypsy, blues, pirate, folk to the scene – The Nomadic Orchestra and Mr Cat & The Jackal. Both are infamous within the local scene for re-igniting a once dying genre, there could be no better pairing.
The Nomadic Orchestra is a five-piece instrumental dance group whose primary goal is to get people moving. The band makes an infectious kind of high-energy music – even the most prudish find themselves unconsciously tapping their feet. They are influenced by Klexmer, gypsy and circus music as well as contemporary western party music.
Mr Cat & The Jackal is a unique five piece multi-instrumental group often described as experimental acoustic folk whilst exploring blues, tango, pirate, Balkan and Irish themes. With a circus of sounds created by foreign and handmade instruments – their live performance calls for a complete theatrical experience.
Last but by no means least, joining Twin Atlantic (SCO) and Brand New (US) on Friday 7 August, will be Cape Town artist, The Plastics. The Plastics have become household names since they broke onto the scene with their debut album ‘Shark’ which included the track ‘Caves” which went to No1. on Campus Radio stations as well as spent 4 weeks at No1. on 5fm’s Rock Chart hosted by Jon Savage. Since then, the band released ‘Best Pretenders’ which saw them being nominated for two MK awards for “Best Group” and “Best Indie Band”.
Tickets for both evenings performances are selling fast. With a limited number of tickets being made available, people are encouraged to get their tickets early.
