Entries are open! On Saturday, 12 December 2015, the Energizer® Night Beach Run will be taking place at 20:00 at Bloubergstrand beachfront opposite Primi Piatti. Pre-registrations are available until 11 December online or at The Boardhouse for only R90 per entrant. Special discounts apply for groups larger than ten. Runners of all fitness levels are welcome as there is a 3km fun run or enjoy the longer 7km run.
“We encourage Capetonians to exercise those bodies, clear their minds and rejuvenate their souls by joining us for an evening under the stars on the beach. It’s the perfect opportunity to take some much needed time out over the weekend; breathe in the fresh, salty sea air and reconnect with nature,” says Gregory Player, Director of Clean C, organiser of the annual beach run.
All entrants aged 2 to 92 years old are welcome; running barefoot is encouraged although running shoes are allowed. Entrants can choose between a 3km fun run/walk and a 7km run. Dogs are allowed, as long as they are on a leash. Regretfully no prams will be permitted for the safety of all taking part.
“The event is a great opportunity to run and socialise with your friends and is a fantastic team building activity for colleagues and team members,” says Player.
To demonstrate the functional benefits of their new and advanced Light Emitting Diode (LED) range of Vision headlights, Energizer® are sponsoring the beach run this year.
“Running along the shoreline on the beach at night is indescribably beautiful; it brings you closer to nature while offering a unique view of your surroundings. Hundreds of headlights illuminate the gentle ebb and flow of the sea and light the path ahead in a magical way,” says Rashmi Vadivelu, senior brand manager for Energizer South Africa.
As the event has a strong environmental focus, Clean C and Energizer want entrants to ‘leave only footprints’ on the sand. There will be recycling bins at every 500 meter intervals to encourage people to pick up any litter along the way and leave the beach beautifully clean.
Headlights will be on sale at the event or can be pre-ordered online. Pre-entries cost R90 (with special discounts for groups larger than 10).
To enter, visit http://www.cleanc.co.za/product/energizer-night-beach-run/.Runners can also enter after 17.00 on Wednesday, 09 and Thursday, 10 December as well as on the night of the race at the Boardhouse at R100 per person.
Beneficiaries of the event are: Beautiful Future – a primary school extra homework, reading and environmental educational project; Run 2 Lead – a running and leadership program for underprivileged youth from Joe Slovo Park; Ukhozi Girls Club – a young ladies empowerment project; and Made with Love – an entrepreneur skills development program for unemployed woman in disadvantaged communities.
All participants will receive a medal made of recycled items at the finish line. There are also prizes for the winners of the 7km race sponsored by Energizer®. Food and drink abound at the beach party which will be held at the Boardhouse after the race.
