The First Sundays of Summer are in full swing at Vergenoegd Wine Estate in Stellenbosch as preparations begin for the next Live@Vergenoegd Summer Concert on Sunday, 5th February 2017, featuring Capetonian alternative pop singer/songwriter and producer, Jimmy Nevis and more local acts.
This will be the fourth in the concert series that has seen thousands of music fans, young and old, enjoy a day out in the sun with friends, family, food and wine. The Jimmy Nevis show promises to be the best outdoor family summer concert experience – all set on Vergenoegd’s idyllic green lawns.
Jimmy Nevis has received extensive commercial radio success in South Africa with the airplay of a number of hit singles including Heartboxing, Balloon, 7764, All About It and Misscato. “I’m trying to get South Africa back into pop music. I think it’s so neglected and undermined and I love the fact that I can be a part of someone’s memory. Pop music has that power. I feel like I’ve been wanting this for so long that I have to embrace it,” says Nevis.
The 8th of January concert featuring headliners, Monark, saw the addition of more local acts to the line-up, ensuring more music for the fans. This continues for the 5th of February show, Mazula and Gemma Griffiths confirmed to play ahead of Jimmy Nevis.
Opening band search launched
What’s more after the amazing success of Cross Current’s opening performance for Monark, Vergenoegd and partner CapeTalk have launched a search for an opening act from the local schools in the area. Up-and-coming bands from these schools will be encouraged to submit video entries (of them playing) to stand a chance of “winning” an opening slot on the day.
Among the judges will be Jimmy Nevis himself, who will choose the top three entries. The public will then be asked to vote on Vergenoegd’s Facebook page – the band with the most votes wins! Everyone who votes and shares the posts on social media stands the chance of winning two tickets to the show as well as a bottle of Jimmy Nevis labelled Runner Duck wine from Vergenoegd’s wine cellars.
