Rhino Disharmony with World Famous pianist Tian Jiang

China and South Africa unite on the 20th April 2017 at St Cyprian’s, Haggie Hall, Gardens, Cape Town to bring you a sensational evening of visual mastery at the Rhino Disharmony Concert. Brought to you by Tian Jiang, along with other musicians such as Cape Town based composer, producer, cellist and guitarist, Robert Jeffery, this promises to be a night of soul-tugging sounds and inspiring performances.

In aid of Rhino Disharmony, the evening aims to raise awareness and fuel emotions highlighting the unrest caused by poaching of rhinos in South Africa.

Tian Jiang will play classical showpieces with modern lyrics.  These will be emphasised by cultural backgrounds coming together in the form of different instruments and vocals. The overriding Rhino Disharmony message offers commentary on the opposing forces that can come together and create harmony.

During his performances, Tian Jiang will not only be joined on stage by Robert Jeffery but also by one of Rhino Disharmony’s ambassadors: South Africa’s darling, Zolani Mahola of Freshlyground.  The Rhino Disharmony theme is ‘Why Run When We Should Be Free’.

Also on stage during Tian’s performance of ‘Dancing Waves’, will be two ballerinas, Jess Hawthorn and Cambell Truss from the Sue de Moyancourt Ballet School, and two choirs, including the Cape Town Youth Choir, which has just returned from Carnegie Hall.

Jonathan Shapiro, otherwise known as ZAPIRO, is one of the Rhino Disharmony Artist Ambassadors. Having been publically vocal about his stance against Rhino Poaching, ZAPIRO will be doing some live drawing as the concert unfolds. Guests will also be seated in the presence of Royal Dignitaries and other Rhino Disharmony Ambassadors.

Another feature at the show is a display of mixed medium art. These include photographs from one of the founding members of Rhino Disharmony, Anthony Watterson, as well as rhino displays from Janice Ashby, founder of The Rhinos Are Coming, who will be showcasing eight of her project’s elaborately painted rhinos. Her rhinos are each painted by various artists from across South Africa, including Rhino Disharmony’s very own Beezy Bailey.

The aim of the concert is to raise awareness about the scourge of rhino poaching.  The participants and artists also use the concert as to give an apology from humankind to the animals that have been violated.

In the words of Lor Watterson, Editor for Creative Feel MagazineJiang’s annual South African tour, where he writes music for his animals’, is much anticipated and a highlight on the classical music calendar.”
