Review: Nokia 8 – Be less Selfie, be more #Bothie

Last week, a Nokia 8 was delivered to our offices for a review. Firstly, let me start off by saying that I’ve been an iPhone user for many years. I’ve become somewhat of a snob comparing iOS and Android devices. But, saying that, I found the usability of Android Nougat clean and user-friendly, as there are pre-loaded apps or other extras that you’d usually find on an Android device.

Being a slightly larger smartphone (5.3inch display), compared to that of the iPhone (4.7inch display), and having a battery capacity of 3,090mAh compared to the iPhone with 1,960mAh, it is a reasonable weight of only 160g.

One of the main reason I was interested in this phone was the #Bothie function that gives you the opportunity to either film video or take photos with the front and rear cameras simultaneously as you’ll see in my short video at below.

I found the clarity of the screen paired with the dual 13 megapixel Carl Zeiss optics for the rear camera to be rather astonishing. They perform well, although the autofocus can take a while in low light, all-round it faired well.

To round off this review, I found the Nokia to be of strong build quality for its price range, as it comes in a few thousand Rand cheaper compared with other smartphones in its class. I think that Nokia has finally caught up after almost a decade of being out of the running as one of the best mobile phone manufacturers. If they keep this up, I might even consider replacing my iPhone with a new Nokia device in the future.
