Mother Nature’s annual bounty of grapes has always been a cause for celebration at Delheim, the famous Stellenbosch wine estate. This year’s Delheim Harvest Festival will, however, adopt refreshed style when it returns for one day only, on Saturday, 27 January 2018.
Picture an afternoon of laughter and bonhomie in the cool shade of giant oak trees. This has been the hallmark of the popular Winelands junket traditionally first on the wine events calendar. Along with the opportunity to share in the delights of outstanding wine, there is also great food and live music entertainment by the multi-instrumentalist rock-folk duo, Bottomless Coffee Band.
Out with the old and in with the new, the Delheim Harvest Festival now features one long harvest table stacked high with the abundant delicacies of a delectable feast. It’s an out-of-this-world spread for fun-loving grown-ups, sharing in the spirit of kinship at the table of the winemakers and Sperling family. A special cash bar will serve all the Delheim wines.
This year, only 120 seats are available – a reason to book as soon as possible. Make it a group affair and bring some friends along! You too can discover the truth in Delheim’s promise brandished on its logo: Delheim – Worth The Journey.
Of course, the Harvest Festival just wouldn’t be the same without grape-stomping and picking, and both will again feature prominently.
Delheim is owned by the Sperling family and is located in the Simonsberg sub-region of the Stellenbosch Wine Routes, on the Knorhoek Road, off the R44. Its winemaking heritage has been honed over generations, which is among the primary reasons for the appeal of its wines and award-winning reputation.
The annual harvest festival toasts these fruits of the season and highlights the importance of communal celebration to the Sperling family. It’s about food and wine lovers coming together; and, just as hard as the Delheim team works during harvest, so too can it party as true acolytes of Bacchus.
The Delheim Harvest Festival gets underway at 11:30, with the harvest feast served at 13h00.
Tickets cost just R650 per person with each including a seat at the long table; a bottle of Delheim wine per couple; as well as grape-stomping action and live music. A long table for the youngsters will also be provided. Tickets for children cost R120 but those under four get in for free.
