Raise the Bar: The Cocktail Glassware Guide

Hosting a cocktail party, whether it’s your first or hundredth, can be stressful – you want every detail to be just right, from the food down to the napkins. Selecting the right glassware is essential, not only for presentation but for elevating your guests’ overall drinking experience. So, here’s a simple guide to choosing the perfect glassware to serve your Cape Town Gin cocktails in style:

The classic G&T

For this simple but iconic drink, it’s best to go for a highball glass. The height of the glass allows for plenty of ice and garnishes, and the narrow shape preserves the effervescence of the tonic.

A Negroni

This bold and bitter cocktail is best served in a short tumbler. The glassware complements the robust flavours of your gin, Campari and vermouth (don’t forget your orange twist!).

Gin Martini

The martini is, of course, served in a martini glass. The delicate stem ensures your hand doesn’t warm the drink, and the shallowness dictates that it’s to be drunk quickly.

Tom Collins

Served in one of the most versatile glasses, the Collins. The length is significant, as it allows for more mixers, perfect for a lighter beverage.

Gin Fizz

This fun cocktail is served in a highball glass. The tall shape of the glass is perfect for allowing the foam to rise and letting the flavours of your Cape Town Gin shine.

Clover Club

This delicious cocktail is served in a coupe glass. Much like a martini glass, it’s used for serving short, chilled cocktails without ice.

So, before hosting your next soirée, make sure to have an array of glassware on hand to serve your guests with style! Here’s a Cape Town Gin cocktail recipe to get you started:

Ingredients:

  • 50ml Cape Town The Pink Lady Gin
  • 20ml freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 20ml raspberry syrup
  • 1 egg white
  • 3 raspberries

Method:
Combine the gin, lemon juice, raspberry syrup and egg white into a cocktail shaker and shake for 30 seconds without ice. Add ice to the shaker and shake again for 30 seconds. strain the drink into a coupe glass and garnish with 3 raspberries pierced onto a wooden cocktail stick.

Served to perfection!
