Klein Libertas Theatre in Stellenbosch will play host to a once-off event that has come to life after 27 year old Johann Botes, “Botes”, as he is affectionately known, was involved in a serious motor vehicle accident outside Velddrif, Western Cape on December 5th 2012 on his way to work. He suffered multiple head injuries, femur and pelvic fractures, and doctors say his narrow escape is a miracle and are amazed by his progress.
After more than a month in ICU, 8 weeks in rehabilitation and endless months of therapy, his medical aid has been exhausted and although he has shown remarkable progress, it might take him months, even years, of therapy and physical rehabilitation to make a full recovery.
His friends have taken it upon themselves to raise funds and assist where possible.
“Botes was flung from the car and survived on his own for several hours before he was found. The fight for life epitomizes Botes’s undying spirit. Time has proven his happiness to be contagious. Our love for this one-of-a-kind individual encouraged us to create an event that will not only help Botes’s recovery but also be a reflection of his happy attitude and “good times” philosophy!”
They’ve created a group where more details and account details can be found for people who would like to support the cause. The group can be found here on Facebook.
Botes is well acquainted with some talented South African musicians and these friends have offered their musical services for free. Die Heuwels Fantasties needs no introduction; their name on any bill guarantees a steady attendance. Both Foto Na Dans and New Holland are stepping out of retirement for this once-off extravaganza.
